SmartBone Bone Regeneration - Bone Graft 0.25 gr
A Bone Graft Born from Advanced Tissue Engineering Technology
SmartBone®, SmartBone® ORTHO, SmartBone® On Demand™, and SwissBone® are produced by combining natural mineral bone structures with biologically degradable polymers and collagen fragments. This innovative biomaterial integration concept allows for excellent integration and osteogenesis by enabling the patient's cells to efficiently replace the bone graft as the biopolymers degrade. Furthermore, thanks to this technology, the graft mimics human bone, is mechanically strong, and is resistant to shaping, screws, and surgical fixation maneuvers.
SmartBone®, SmartBone® ORTHO, SmartBone® On Demand™, and SwissBone® are essentially the same product with different brand names or intended use indications.
Bovine Bone Matrix
- Possesses a chemical composition and morphology similar to human bone.
- Rigid but not elastic, making it very brittle (due to the loss of biomechanical properties when proteins are removed during the cleaning processes).
Biologically Degradable Polymers
These provide:
- High load resistance.
- High volumetric stability (more than 95%); polymers protect the bone from premature absorption.
Collagen Fragments
These support:
- Promotion of blood cell adhesion and colonization.
- Guarantee high hydrophilicity, thereby enhancing the biochemical signaling sequence that supports the osteoinductive process.
Human-Like Microstructure
The composite matrix of SmartBone®, SmartBone® ORTHO, SmartBone® On Demand™, and SwissBone® strongly resembles human bone in its open, interconnected, and medium-sized porosity. It mimics the characteristics of healthy human bone: high biocompatibility, sufficient open porosity, high mechanical performance, and hydrophilicity.
Due to their natural origins, SmartBone®, SmartBone® ORTHO, SmartBone® On Demand™, and SwissBone® are designed to minimize the intrinsic variability found in other bone substitutes. IBI provides homogeneous bone substitutes with consistent microstructure, porosity, density, and mechanical properties.
Extremely High Hydrophilicity and Rapid Osseointegration
Thanks to its microcomposition, SmartBone®, SmartBone® ORTHO, SmartBone® On Demand™, and SwissBone® rapidly absorb fluids. With a 38% w/w blood swelling rate, the graft initiates a biochemical signaling cascade that triggers strong osteointegration.
High Tissue Integration
The microstructure and composition of SmartBone®, SmartBone® ORTHO, SmartBone® On Demand™, and SwissBone® support cell colonization.
In Vitro Studies
Electron microscopy analyses of in vitro cell colonization tests have demonstrated the presence of extensive and well-structured cell formations within SmartBone®, SmartBone® ORTHO, SmartBone® On Demand™, and SwissBone®. These findings validate the biochemical data collected during ISO standard tests. Biological and histological studies confirmed the graft’s suitability as a supportive substrate for cell adhesion and growth. Mesenchymal Stem Cells derived from human adipose tissue showed the ability to properly colonize the scaffold in vitro and differentiate upon stimulation.
In Vivo Studies
Studies were conducted over a 4-month observation period to evaluate osteointegration. Histological analysis demonstrated that SmartBone®, SmartBone® ORTHO, SmartBone® On Demand™, and SwissBone® integrate seamlessly, as evidenced by natural bone formation, including cells and vessels colonizing the pores over time.
Dental Indications
SmartBone® is intended for use in reconstruction surgeries and bone regeneration/enlargement procedures, including:
- Regeneration of periodontal bone defects.
- Regeneration of extraction sockets.
- Regeneration of gaps between the alveolar wall and immediate implants.
- Horizontal alveolar ridge augmentation.
- Sinus lift floor height.
- Alveolar ridge augmentation in implant areas with adequate residual bone and good blood support.
Key Features
- Easy and dust-free shaping with all types of surgical tools (e.g., bone cutters, drills).
- Resistant to heavy loads and intensive surgical maneuvers.
- Enhanced stability of expanded bone graft compared to loose granules.
- No need for autologous bone in larger defects, reducing patient morbidity.
- No resorption: The polymeric coating protects the graft during the initial healing/osseointegration period.
- Easily absorbs blood.
Conclusion
SmartBone®, SmartBone® ORTHO, SmartBone® On Demand™, and SwissBone® offer cutting-edge solutions for both dental and orthopedic applications, combining advanced biomaterial engineering with excellent clinical performance to meet diverse patient and procedural needs.
